Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Accessibility UX Designer to join Bytex and help drive accessibility. The role will focus on embedding accessibility early in the design process, ensuring that designs and design system components meet accessibility standards before they reach development.

The ideal candidate will have strong accessibility fundamentals, combined with experience in UX/UI design and design systems. This person will work closely with the Accessibility Lead, UX designers, visual designers, and developers, acting as an independent accessibility partner and consultant across the wider UX community.

Responsibilities

  • Review UX/UI designs and design system components from an accessibility perspective and provide detailed, actionable feedback.
  • Perform multiple accessibility reviews on a regular basis, independently identifying issues and recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Add annotations and recommendations directly to designs to help designers understand and address accessibility requirements.
  • Support the UX team with accessibility-related questions and reduce dependency on the Accessibility Lead by acting as an internal accessibility consultant.
  • Collaborate closely with UX designers, visual designers, developers, and UI teams throughout the design and implementation lifecycle.
  • Provide accessibility guidance when designs are implemented into code and support additional quality checks.
  • Help ensure accessibility is considered early in the design process (“shift-left” approach), rather than being addressed only during final testing.
  • Review and contribute to accessible design system components that will be reused across different product teams.
  • Support accessibility considerations related to responsive/reflow experiences and existing product redesigns, including understanding how elements should be structured and rearranged.
  • Participate in regular accessibility meetings and work closely with the Accessibility Lead to prioritize and distribute review activities.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience in creating and implementing UX Design
  • Strong and proven understanding of digital/web accessibility fundamentals.
  • Good understanding of how HTML, CSS and JavaScript relate to accessibility.
  • Knowledge of ARIA, accessibility APIs and semantic HTML.
  • Practical experience with accessibility testing tools, including screen readers and magnification tools.
  • Experience reviewing UX/UI designs from an accessibility perspective.
  • Good understanding of design systems and reusable UI components.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify accessibility issues that may not have been encountered before.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of accessibility reviews and provide clear recommendations.
  • Good understanding of how designs are translated into code, including basic knowledge of the DOM and how UI elements are structured and rearranged.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, as the role involves working with a broad UX and development community.
  • Exposure to Figma is highly desirable, as a significant part of the role will involve reviewing designs in Figma.

Nice to have

  • IAAP accessibility certification, such as CPACC or WAS.
  • Previous experience working specifically on accessibility-focused projects.
  • Experience with accessibility and design system components.
  • Some development experience or stronger technical knowledge of frontend implementation.
  • A portfolio or other evidence demonstrating previous accessibility work.

Working schedule

  • EU flexible schedule with some overlap with US and India teams.
  • Weekly accessibility meetings + weekly 1:1s with the Accessibility Lead, depending on workload

Recruitment process

  • Short Bytex HR introductory discussion
  • 1-2h Bytex technical discussion with one of our senior engineers
  • Customer call with UX/Accessibility team – technical discussion and assessment
